Svadharma Vs. Ikigai

19 March, 2025

Intellect Yoga Institute’s mission is to globally mainstream the Gita via valuable, timeless, universal insights that can be applied – here and now.

This infographic is an effort to convey the sophisticated power of SvaDharma relative to a popular concept called Ikigai from Japan.

Ikigai focuses on the intersection of passion, profession, vocation, and mission to find personal fulfillment.

Svadharma delves deeper and wider – integrating duty/doing the right thing, Svabhāva (self-awareness), Āśrama (life-stage considerations) and sharper role definitions (Varna) to create a purposeful path.

Svadharma emphasizes aligning actions with one’s innate potential for achievement and contributing to the greater good through Dharmārtha (righteous wealth) and Dānam (sharing) all the while practicing Karma Yoga for continuous effectiveness.

Svadharma provides a more complete, ethically grounded, and enduring framework for a meaningful life, adding gravity and direction beyond the personal satisfaction found in Ikigai.
